On Saturday, September 19th, 2009 Covenant Christian Academy held the Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new school campus which opened for the first day of school on September 9th, 2009.
The day provided a special opportunity for the school to publically thank the Lord for His faithfulness and blessing not only during this project but over the existence of the school. The school also thanked and recognized the many individuals who were a part of the project.
Joseph E. Sanelli, CCA Headmaster, welcomed the crowd of almost 400 to the campus and then introduced long time friend of CCA and Senior Pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, Bob Eickelberg to open the ceremony in prayer.
Bob Kobzowicz, CCA Board President, offered "A Look at Our History" by sharing the events and happenings which brought the school from their first organizational meeting to where the school is today. On behalf of the CCA Community, Mr. Kobzowicz took time to thank all everyone who has ever served on the CCA Board of Directors for their time and service to the school.
Dr. Chris Perrin, CCA Founding Headmaster, presented “A Look at Classical Education” which was followed by everyone joining together in singing the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, led by CCA Faculty Member Denise Seymour.
Greg Lowe, CCA Building Chair and current Board Member, presented “A Look at the Building Project”. Greg shared stories from the project as well as thanked the many volunteers who collectively contributed over 3500 hours of service to the project. He also thanked the various individuals and companies who made significant contributions to the building in both time and materials.
Joseph E. Sanelli, Headmaster of CCA, presented “A Look at Our Future”. During his speech he praised God for blessing the school with both the building and the purchase of an additional 10 acres of land adjacent to the school property. Mr. Sanelli then made three special presentations on behalf of Christian Academy.
Greg Lowe was honored with the presentation of a framed collage featuring pictures of the new school building, children in the hallway on the first day of school and the American Flag which is flown out front of the new school.
To honor the hospitality, support and encouragement shown by the leadership and congregation of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, CCA named their new school library the “Trinity Presbyterian Church of Harrisburg Library”. “It has been said many times, CCA would not be where it is today as a school if not for the support of Trinity Presbyterian” said Headmaster Sanelli. Covenant Christian Academy had called the facilities of Trinity home for the past 12 years. A plaque is now displayed outside the library door at CCA and a duplicate plaque was presented to Senior Pastor Bob Eickelberg on behalf of the church.
As part of its future plans, CCA hopes to build a Field House and Fine Arts Center which will allow the school to continue to expand enrollment as well as athletic and fine arts programs. The decision was made to name the future building after longtime supporters and contributors, Edgar and Elizabeth Dunlap Edgar’s love for athletics and Elizabeth’s love for the arts, made the decision to name the building after them very fitting. The plaque dedicating the future building, which will be displayed in the school lobby until the building is constructed, was presented to their youngest daughter Catherine. Catherine, a CCA Founding Board Member and current school parent, accepted the plaque along with her husband Michael Miller.
After the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon the event was closed in prayer by Founding and Current Board Member and school parent, Dr. Richard Rayner. Dr. Rayner offered a prayer of dedication and blessing for the school.
