One of the primary goals at CCA is to encourage the appreciation and creation of works of art, music, literature, and other cultural expressions which highlight biblical truth and motivate us to moral excellence and spiritual growth. Toward that end, we focus mainly on “classical” works which students may not otherwise encounter in our current popular culture.
During the school day, therefore, our preference is to avoid promoting entertainments which are so prevalent in other venues. Examples of such items include, but are not limited to: books, audio tapes, or videos “starring” or prominently displaying cartoon or comic book characters; games - electronic, board, or group - which employ the above characters or encourage mystical role-playing or occult practices (Dungeons and Dragons, tarot cards, Ouiji, etc.); stickers or other incentive items which promote the above or elevate popular culture personalities.
Since the fabric of contemporary culture is composed of short-lived trends, items offered for entertainment/incentive purposes at the school should be continually evaluated for both content and intent before being offered or permitted.
The Headmaster, independently or through advice or counsel of the CCA Board of Directors, will make these ongoing determinations and inform staff, students, and parents accordingly.
This statement also applies to personal “fad” toys or collections which cause distraction or promote obsessive behavior in students (Webkinz, Transformers, Neopets, etc.). The Headmaster or principals may at any time prohibit the presence of such items at the school if it is determined that such items threaten or hinder the scholastic or Christian environment at CCA.
